Storybook Camp

We're back this summer with more storybook adventures and crafty projects! Young readers ages 5 to 9 years old will embark on an epic storybook journey each day of camp week.  Every day of camp we will read 2 - 3 books together followed by story-related activities.  For example, we may read Sylvester and the Magic Pebble and then paint rocks to take home or leave around town.  Or we may read Brave and create our own super-hero capes or masks.  It will be an adventure-filled week full of stories and creativity.  The cost is $80 per camper for the entire week or $20 per camper per day if you're not around for the full week but still want your child to participate.

SPRING 2019 - June 17th - 21st, 9am-11am

Registration is required and space is limited.

Previous Dates: SUMMER 2018 - Camp runs August 6th - 10th from 9am-11am and campers can attend the full week or any number of individual days.

Writer's Camp

Does your reader want to grow up to be a writer one day?  We've got just the camp to inspire that love of writing!  Writer's Camp is for youth ages 9 years old to 15 years old.

SPRING 2019 - Due to low registration in 2018, we're assessing the interest level in our area for hosting again this summer.  Let us know if this is something your young writer is interested in attending by stopping by the store or sending a quick email.

Previous Dates: SUMMER 2018 - We will explore writing careers in general, take a look at the career of journalism, and hear from fiction writers in our area as well as have a day to exlore writing poetry.  A session will be led by NY Times Bestselling author Beth Revis, another by two time author P. S. Broaddus, and another session by published writer and poet Christina Xiong.  Your budding author can register for the full week of camp or any number of individual days.

Book Art Club
We're collaborating with Sketch Artspace for a special art project each month!  Take a story off the pages of its book and bring it to life on canvas under the instruction of experienced art educator Staci Nofziger.  The cost is $25 per child ($20 for each sibling for families) and includes a take-home creation.  Participants will have the option to purchase their very own copy of the book read each month.  Registration is required.
We're working with Ms. Staci to identify dates for Summer 2019.  Check back regularly for updates and details!
Previous Events
May 2018 Perfect Square.  We'll read about the adventures of a perfect square as it
experiences something new each day and transforms into a new beautiful creation.  Young artists
will then have the opportunity to create their own unique masterpieces, be it a square, a park, a
fountain, a bridge, or capture another spectacular adventure altogether.
June  2018: Sky Color Just as the main character must use her imagination and creativity
to solve a problem, your young artists will explore the depths of their own imagination as they
      create their work of art.
July 2018: The Lion Inside.   Read along with us as we hear the story of a small mouse
and a lion as they learn about friendship and finding one's voice.  Young artists will take the story
to canvas as they bring to life a masterpiece of their own.

Don't Judge a Book by Its Movie

***We're working to restructure these events and hope to offer some summer break options very soon.  Please check back for details and updates.***

Each month we will read a book and then watch the corresponding movie, followed by a discussion of similarities and differences.  Your kiddos will get a chance to write or draw their findings in a creative way.  Simple snacks will be provided (please indicate any food allergies on the sign up forms each time your child attends). Each drop-off event is designed for children ages 5 to 11 years old and the cost covers story time, snacks, craft, discussion, and movie.  Take note of the time and pricing indicated; events that run from 6:00-8:00pm are $25 and events that run from 6-7:30pm are $20.  Space is limited 12 children and pre-registration is REQUIRED, ending the day before each event.
